As students move seamlessly through these different representations, they move onto quadratic relationships. Topics are introduced through problem solving, experimentation, and collaborative group work. By the end of the course, students will be confident mathematical thinkers who can take leadership roles in math conversations and fully prepared for Geometry. Specific topics include:
The middle school math curriculum is engaging and demanding and allows students to be able to delve deeply into math concepts. Our students “do math” with a deep understanding of how to apply procedures to real world math problems. Students develop mastery of mathematical skills and understandings over time, and work collaboratively in teams to solve problems using cognitive (math) and meta-cognitive (learning, cooperation, problem-solving) strategies. Group work is supported by individual preparation, practice and review. Our program prepares students to approach new and difficult problems with confidence. There is an opportunity for advanced classes for students who meet rigorous admission criteria combined with teacher recommendation.
6th Grade Math Curriculum: Sixth grade is a smooth transition from fifth grade math where students are not only learning new topics, but also going deeper in topics that they have previously learned.
