Beyond the Classroom

More Than a Typical School Day

Learning doesn't stop after the class schedule ends; our ample offerings afterschool ensure that your child can explore even more educational offerings. From arts and athletics to cooking and karate as well as a variety of other courses and afterschool care opportunities, there's something exciting for your child to explore.

Music and art expand your child’s imaginative and expressive range. Starting in preschool, our students sing in class every day. Beginning in Lower School, your child can play in our renowned 60-member orchestra. At the same time, students experiment with a rich assortment of visual media, including film and 3-D modeling, and our students’ vibrant artwork fills our classrooms, hallways, and hearts with delight.

Our athletic program combines healthy competition with a strong sense of teamwork. In PE classes, and on an array of competitive teams, your child builds physical ability and courage, along with teamwork skills that transfer to classes and life in general. Here, playing to win goes hand-in-hand with having fun and feeling good—ensuring your child loves being active throughout life.

Orchestra

One of Sinai Akiba Academy's signature programs is our after-school orchestra. For over 40 years, we've engaged students in the joy and discipline of learning an instrument, connecting with others, and performing for the school community and beyond. There are four levels of ensembles, ranging from absolute beginner to advanced. Our students enjoy numerous performance opportunities throughout the year, including formal winter and spring concerts, school assemblies, pop-up performances for special events, and field trips.

We offer four ensembles to fit our students' needs:

Prelude - Beginner level ensemble, no experience needed. Students can choose to play violin, viola, or cello.

Intermezzo - Intermediate level ensemble for students with at least one year of playing experience. String instruments, piano, and wind/percussion instruments are welcome.

Protege - Pre-advanced level ensemble for students with at least two years of playing experience. Students must know how to read music fluently. String instruments, piano, and wind/percussion instruments are welcome.

Symphony - Advanced audition-only ensemble for students with at least three years of playing experience. Students must know how to read music fluently. String instruments, piano, and wind/percussion instruments are welcome.

Athletics

The physical education program stresses the importance of sportsmanship and fair play. Although a competitive effort is encouraged, respect between players, adherence to the rules and the basic joy of play and participation are emphasized. The physical education department is committed to providing an active and varied physical exercise program, which supports the physical, social and emotional growth of every student. Our students are encouraged to develop physical interests, which will help them maintain a healthy body throughout their lifetimes.

Students in 5th - 8th grades have the opportunity to participate in after-school league sports at various levels of play and difficulty. Our teams compete against schools in the San Fernando Valley Private School League, and we take pride in our teams’ performance. Our goal is to make our students’ athletic experience as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. Each team holds tryouts prior to the beginning of each sports season. Players must commit to attending practices and games on a regular basis.
