In 2020, our country’s ongoing reckoning with race has become increasingly intense and complex. In this raw, yet potent, moment, how can parents and their tweens & teens have meaningful conversations about race? What questions do we need to ask our teens – and, maybe more importantly, ourselves – about racism, bias, discrimination, inequality, and civil unrest? How can we help our teens navigate these complicated topics in a world powered by social media and permeated with “cancel culture”? What can we, as parents, learn from this younger generation’s perspective on race and other forms of human difference? And how can we use active dialogue within our families to shape a more just and equitable future?
Join us as Dr. Allison Briscoe-Smith helps us answer these questions and more. Dr Briscoe-Smith is a clinical psychologist and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Wright Institute. Her research focuses on trauma/Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how children understand race.
