Practice "Social Distancing" from Your Computer

During this time of Safer at Home, we are all relying on our digital devices to stay in touch with friends and loved ones, to study, to work, and to complete daily operations. That's why it's important to take time in our day to practice "social distancing" from our computers and devices. Read on for some tips, one of which includes how to make your own face mask!
Here are some quick tips on how to get some screen-free time in your life:
  • Make meals a No-Device-Zone. Leave cell phones, tablets, and laptops elsewhere. Don't take meals at your desk if you're working from home, and use the time for meals as a time to bond with family, or to just enjoy some quiet time outside on a balcony or patio.

  • Take a Nap. Many of us have had to let go of our typical daily routines of going to the salon or barber, visiting friends at a coffee shop or even each other's homes, and these seemingly small things, are a huge part of how we separate ourselves from work, school, and being stuck at home. Taking a quick nap can be a way for you to move to a different room, even for a short period of time and recharge. It's not the same world it was a couple of months ago, and your routine isn't going to be the same either.

  • Find a new hobby. Be it knitting, gardening (even indoors or on your balcony), playing the keyboard, or doing calligraphy, find something to do that doesn't involve a digital screen blasting your face. This will give your eyes a break from the strain of the glare and give you a chance to learn a new skill.

  • Take a Walk. It's important to still get exercise, but make sure you follow all the proper social distancing and personal protection guidelines. Like, wear a face mask — here are directions from our recent Mask Making event so you can make your very own! — and keep a minimum of six feet of distance between you and others.
