Emergency Updates

A Message from Interim Head of School Betty Winn

Dear Parents,

I want to thank you for your incredible support during these times of uncertainty as we continue to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19). I hope you are all staying healthy and dry on this rainy day. As promised, this is your daily update. Today proved to be extremely fruitful for our administrators and faculty as they solidified their plans for online learning. Tomorrow, we will continue training with our faculty and testing our operations in order to best be prepared for classes to take place remotely.

Tomorrow, we will be sending an email out with instructions on how online learning will take place, which will start next week. From Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20,  we will transition to a 100% online learning environment; students should not come to school during this time. This decision was made using the most current information available to us, an abundance of caution and a real desire to help slow down the spread of this terrible virus; our goal is to be proactive and keep our students, families, and community healthy.

Middle School on-line classes will begin on Monday, Lower School on-line classes will begin on Tuesday. All divisions, including ECC and Parenting Center, should expect to hear from their division heads tomorrow with details regarding their programs and how learning will continue online. You should also anticipate receiving emails from your teachers by the end of the day tomorrow. In addition, devices will be made available for families with children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Pick-up times for the devices will be on Sunday from 9-12 and Monday from 8-4 at the School.  Stay tuned tomorrow for details on how to pick up your devices, and the acceptable use policies that will need to be signed.

This move to online learning means that our Digital Publishing celebrations and other events next week have also been canceled. At this time, we are unable to determine if and when things will be rescheduled, but we will diligently look for ways to celebrate our students’ hard work.

In preparation for the move to online learning, if you would like to stop by and stock up on library books, the library will be open tomorrow, March 13 from 8:00am - 3:00pm. For those who have library books out, please ignore email notices regarding overdue library books during the Online Learning period. These notices are automatically generated and we do not charge overdue fines during these times.

To kick off the online experience, Rabbi Sherman is going Live on Facebook for an “ECC Shabbat Party” tomorrow, Friday, March 13 at 10:00 am. Join the fun online

I recently participated in a webinar during which I heard this quote, “The most challenging opportunities often provide us with the greatest growth.” At times like this, it’s more important than ever that we embrace this opportunity to look beyond what we have always done and continue to find new ways to engage in high-quality learning. I am so proud of all our administration and faculty have done in the past few weeks to prepare us for this new learning environment.  I know that we will continue to come together (virtually) and support each other to ensure that our students continue to experience the joy of learning even from afar.

Warmly,
Betty Winn
Interim Head of School
