SAA Alum Named to Chicago Jewish 36 Under 36 List
Arielle Gabai Lewis '05, a Sinai Akiba Academy Alum, has been named to the ninth annual “Double Chai in the Chi: 36 Under 36” list of young Jewish movers and shakers in Chicago.
She was one of several honorees this year recognized for going the extra mile during COVID-19, working on the front lines, creating community in innovative ways and ensuring access to basic necessities.
Arielle works as the Director of Resident Services and Comunity Outreach at The Selfhelp Home, a not-for-profit retirement community designed to accommodate the needs of older Jewish adults throughout the Chicago area. In her role there, she worked to maintain her signature upbeat personality, according to her Oy!Chicago profile, and help offset the isolation many elderly Selfhelp residents have felt since the pandemic began.
Two of her efforts to support her residents were mentioned in her profile online. In order to help her residents stay in touch with loved ones, Arielle organized an iPad drive and collected more than 25 iPads to help residents connect with their friends, family, and even each other. That's not all. Arielle also created a Shabbat cart to help continue the tradition of the communal Shabbat dinners, despite the challenges that social distancing created.
