Special Art Display

Art Teacher Anna August has been featuring student work around the Sinai building for nearly 20 years now. But now, for the first time, her own work will be featured in the Maroge Gallery, with Opening Night on November 2 at 7:00pm.
Two years ago, Mrs. August challenged herself to get back into creating her own artwork, “trying to do a little every day, even 5-10 minutes,” she explained. That challenge included her working on an exhibit known as, WOMAN. “I feel like there are so many important women who have inspired and changed the world, and I wanted to dedicate an ode of appreciation to them. I have included women who I feel have made an imprint on history and women who have affected me personally.”

Art has been a part of Mrs. August’s life for many years. Born in New York City, Mrs. August and her family moved to Israel when she was four. “I grew up on a Moshav called Mevo Modiim. I studied art in Jerusalem and in Beer-Sheva, where I explored a wide range of techniques and materials from creative traditions around the world.”

Mrs. August began her teaching career in Israel, and for the last 19 years, she has taught art here at Sinai Akiba Academy. “I encourage my students to actively engage in creative activities,” she said, “teaching them that inspiration and imagination is a lifelong process that can enhance any career or lifestyle they may pursue.”

The showcase ties into her art classes here at SAA, as she has been talking to the students about pursuing their own interests and passions, as well as new things they might want to learn. “Practice it a little every day and slowly, slowly, you can have a whole art show, or you could learn a new skill,” Mrs. August told her students. She also has been discussing her artwork and talking to them about it during class. “I hope this will inspire them!”

The showcase Opening Night takes place on November 2 at 7:00pm in Maroge Gallery, Sinai Temple.
