Arts
Music
Sinai Akiba offers three distinct music programs, taught by a team of three music teachers. In general studies music, students take part in basic music classes, learning music fundamentals such as rhythm and harmony, while becoming familiar with the great composers, orchestra instruments and various types of musical genres. They can also participate in the school choir and the recorder club. In Judaic studies music students learn a variety of Jewish music and songs. They sing traditional holiday melodies, Israeli music and they learn to participate musically in t’fila, prayer. Students can also participate in our 80 member school orchestra that meets after school and performs at school assemblies, as well as in a variety of community programs and events.
Visual Arts
Art programs at Sinai Akiba teach students the artistic process through a variety of media, including clay, papier-mâche', oil paints and water colors. Students produce ceramics, assemble collages and make beautiful paintings as they learn drawing skills and brush techniques. Our art specialist—who teaches general studies art and Judaic studies art—works with classroom teachers to integrate art appreciation into the curricula and to coordinate visits to museums. Our campus is proudly decorated with student-generated artwork.
Drama
Drama is among the electives middle school students can select. Students who have chosen the drama elective work for 5 months to prepare for the spring musical. This is a major production, involving students in both theater performance and production. The 2010 musical was Annie. Past productions have included Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Guys and Dolls, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and The Music Man.
