Judaic Studies

In order to inspire children to be engaged in exploring their roots and shaping their Jewish identity, we combine a variety of studies. Students delve into their personal family history and values as well as daily t’fillot, holiday rituals, modern Hebrew language, Jewish history, critical analysis of Torah and rabbinic texts and active engagement with Jewish thought and the land of Israel.

Sinai Akiba Academy students who engage in learning are empowered to contribute to their ongoing religious practice and cultural narrative. Focused and ongoing projects with local, national and international organizations and communities help our students repair the world and light the future with their strength, compassion and commitment to helping others.

Starting in Lower School, Judaic Studies, students are immersed in Jewish values, heritage, texts, and language. Students learn to lead prayers, read from the Torah, perform Jewish rituals and mitzvot, connect to Israel in a multitude of ways, and take pride in being Jewish. By exploring a wide variety of Jewish text and media, students are able to develop their critical thinking skills in relation to Judaic studies, and adopt practices that are valuable to them throughout their time at Sinai Akiba Academy and beyond.

We partner with local, national and international businesses and universities—with a special focus on American Jewish innovators and agencies in Israel—to bring the most current, challenging J-STEAM (Judaica, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) practices to even our youngest learners, and all through a Jewish lens. Our technology education doesn’t just happen in a lab, but is integrated seamlessly across the curriculum.

"We empower students to make their own commentary on texts. They look at ancient texts and make meaning in the present. They become part of a chain, one generation to the next, and contribute to an ever-evolving process."

– Irit Eliyahu, Judaic Studies Director
